Mt. Hood Sunset

Mt. Hood is bathed in the warm rays of sunset while colorful lupines and asters glow in an alpine meadow along the Timberline Trail in the Mt. Hood Wilderness. The gnarled and stunted trees attest to the ferocity of weather at timberline on the slopes of Mt. Hood. This is the same location of my last post, "Western Cascades Sunset". We are looking into the upper reaches of the Zigzag Canyon and river draining off of Zigzag Glacier high up on Mt. Hood. While I have not yet hiked to the best location on the mountain for wildflowers at Paradise Park, the lupine and asters here were quite lovely. Hopefully I will be in shape for that trek next season. As many of you know I am continuing on my journey of recovery from way too many gallons of chemo infused into my veins. But that is in the past and this hike was fantastic therapy for me

gorgeous warm light. makes one want to burst into song - "the hills are alive ..." doesn't knock me over but quietly elegant.

What an utterly gorgeous location. These exposed tree-line environments would have to be my favourite places on the planet to be, in nice weather!. A showcase of American perfection. Thanks for letting me feel the glow :-)

Phil - Best of luck on your recovery - looks like you are well on your way. I might cosider darkening the mnt. shadows especially, asthey look a little too grey and washed out to me-maybe even the grasses shadows in the flowers areas as well. It appears that there is some latitude to do this if you wanted. I think this would give some added punch to some already great light you found.

It's hard to go wrong with such a subject and light. The composition is solid and this results in a very pleasing shot. All the best on your way to recovery.

Very nice image Phil. I really like the foreground flowers and the textures on the mountain created by the side lighting. Glad to see you are out hitting the trail after your chemo. I hope you have a quick recovery!

There are few things that can offer the therapy and healing that mountain views like this do. Lovely light across the whole landscape. I would have loved to see the flowers a little bigger, but I know that sometimes can be a real challenge.
