Somehow there are a lot of Whites flying here this summer. This one was very cooperative, it let me approach very easily. I really like the hairy face.

An interesting and different composition. By excluding most of the wings, focus is drawn to the head and action. I am thinking that even less of the wing would be worth looking at.

Really nice, Ellen. I like the way you composed this - with the focus on the head and proboscis, and including the whole thistle flower. I particularly like the way you can see the proboscis way down inside the flower. Excellent detail everywhere it matters. The contrasting green and lavender colors are attractive, and the BG is perfect. Lots to like about this one. :toast:

Ellen, nice portrait of this butterfly. Great job capturing all of the detail in the 'face'. As a very minor nit, I would like to see the wing more in focus but you nailed it where it counts.

I like this a lot. The details in the eye and face are great and keeping the entire antenna sharp is a notable accomplishment. I could a modest crop from the left to move the face a bit more off center as possibly adding interest, but this is fine as presented.
