Bull Elk at Dawn

I found this elk standing in the wild flowers in Yellowstone at dawn. I ran a little noise reduction on this image due to the higher ISO. I think it looks good now.

Nikon D300 F4 1/160 ISO 1600 Nikon 24-120 F4

Comments and critiques please. Always learning especially with the higher ISO settings.

Andrew, IMHO a nice habitat shot of a bull elk. I think it needs just a bit of a contrast boost. Also, maybe taken at a slightly lower angle to give some seperation of the elks head and the bushes. Thanks for sharing.

Dandy 6x6! Exposure looks fine for conditions, but as with many pre or post-sunlight images it seems to lack some pop. I have had similar frustrations of late in getting some decent elk captures! The flowers are a good accent and composition feels right. One could have hoped to get a facial expression that was not mid-chew, so to my eye that is a small nit. The velvet antlers show up beautifully against that background.
