Canon EOS 7D
EF400mm f/5.6L USM

1/500 sec
Manual
f/5.6
ISO 400
Handheld
Harris Neck NWR

One of my very few (almost no) images from this summer. Too dark? I lightened the background a bit, but the lighter green gets too light/bright quickly.

Comments, opinions and feedback on the above or anything else would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Gorgeous, Barbara. What a perfect specimen. Very clean profile capture with a nice bg. The bg looks good to me. My only question is whether to crop a little off both ends to tighten up the image and reduce the empty space. Either way, this is a first rate BF image. Thanks for sharing. :toast:

Barbara, the background looks just fine the way it is. I really like the way that your were able to capture the butterfly and a single flower. This is a perfect Swallowtail. Mine are usually so torn up at this time of year.

Great capture Barb, the large version looks nice and sharp. With not alot of contrast between the BF and BG it's hard to get it to pop much but I think you did a pretty nice job with what you had to work with.

Beautiful image Barbara! The BF is pristine and tack sharp and the darker background really makes this pop! No nits here! :toast:

It does not look too dark for me, beautiful butterfly. A crop would help. :wavey:

Beautifully done, Barbara ! The butterfly and the flower stand out so well against this bg - the lighting is perfect. A personal preference might be for a square or even vertical image ( to see a little more of the stem ) but I maybe like stems over much !!

A real beauty in every way -- comp, details, perch, light (not too dark at all) and excellent background.
Congrats on the WP.

Congratulations! This a difficult shot to execute - a black swallowtail on a white flower. Well balanced.
