Violet Sabrewing

The Violet Sabrewing hummingbird is one of the largest hummingbirds in Costa Rica measuring about 6 inches long.

Their beautiful violet color of the male is unmistakable.

This is one capture from my last trip to Costa Rica. High speed flash setup with 3 flashes on the hummer, one on the background.

Canon 50D, 70-200 f/4 @ 150mm
1/200 @ f/13, ISO 320

Basic processing. About 90% of the full frame.

Beautiful bird, beautifully captured. Love his target flowers which are also unusual and add interest. Were you at a lodge in CR with this setup (or did you bring all the gear?), and if the latter, would you mind sharing which one?

Simply beautiful in all ways. It's surprising to me that you got so much clarity at only 1/200. Now I know why you go to so much trouble with all the flashes!
