Hi John, I like Columbines too, and like this - particularly with the shadow to repeat the flower. I would have been inclined to brush the grasses aside (maybe use some close at hand object to hold them out of the way) for a cleaner look, but that's minor. Thanks for sharing!

John: You're going to get some "harsh light" feedback on this one but I rather like this midday view and the shadow on the rock. I also kind of like the grasses as they add a nice environmental touch. Well seen and captured. >=))>

Bill beat me to it: I don't mind the shadow of the flower on the right but find the dark shadow on the left to be distracting. A diffuser would have helped soften the light a little....just another item to carry around if you don't already have one. :wavey:

Nice catch Mark, thank you. I wouldn't have thought of that but you are right. This is such a great place to learn.

John:
Even with this bright light, the columbine looks great. I like the shadow a lot and wish for a little more room along the right to accommodate the entire shadow.

John - I almost always use a 12 inch diffuser for harsh light photos - gives me saturated colors and no shadows. I really like the interaction between the grass reeds and the Columbine flower. I am on the fence with the shadow of the flower even though compositionally a relation can be made with the Echo effect.
