Once in a....

I've been living in Calgary for 17 years but I've never been down the Icefields Parkway in Banff. I figured I'd take the opportunity of a long weekend and take off at 4am to get over there for sunrise. I made it over to Bow Lake when the magic started.

The "blue" moon is actually just out of frame on the right. I was hoping to include it, but decided it wasn't going to work out.

Let me know what you think!

This is beautiful Jeff. Nice comp, colors and lighting. The band of clouds wrapping around the mountain really makes this a dynamic image. I'm glad to hear you finally made it over to the Icefields Parkway (one of the best drives in the world IMO).

awesome! beautiful capture! love the comp and the reflection! my only minor nit would be the small part of the shoreline on the RHS interfering with the reflection.

This is stellar, Jeff. The only little thing that I saw was the polarizer darkening the sky in the center. Maybe worth fixing.

Oh, sweet! Done right! The bit of pebble shore is unfortunate, but it sure doesn't detract from this magnificent image! :toast:

Splendid, and with a marvelous sense of tridimensionality... It is worth correcting the central darker part of the sky...

Great capture and composition. The sky blue seems a bit too aqua around the edges and dark in the midframe area, otherwise beautiful colors.

Stunning, Jeff! Well composed, following the "rule of thirds". Wonderful reflection and lovely
colors. The golden orange area on the mountain above the cloud is a real plus.

Oh, my... Incredible image! The colors and light are fantastic, and it's good you didn't force anything else into this (like the moon), if it would compromise the overall picture. This may be one of my personal favorites. The ONLY nit, might be the shoreline on the far side of the lake. There seems to be odd breaks or something, perhaps from an image stitch? Anyways, great capture, and thanks for sharing!

Jeff, I'm speechless. As a lifelong mountain fanatic this image really speaks to me. Outstanding, with out a doubt my to date favorite post on NPN. Just so I'm clear, one shot right, not a stack? The light, the clouds, the reflection, the depth, really an incredible image. Guess it was worth it to drag yourself up early, right? Keep them coming! :toast:

The lighting and clouds are really special in this one. I wish that little bit of beach wasn't protruding into the frame on the right, but that's a minor nit. Overall a strong image.

I think this is so beautiful! I was only distracted by the sand bank on the right when it was brought to my attention. I've seen electric blue skies like these so they are beautiful and believable to me. I think the CP darkening is very minor. Anyway I think it's just beautiful and would be proud to have it in my collection or on my wall! :toast:

Beautiful conditions you had. Looks like you need to restitch the image though as the shoreline beneath the mountain is not matching up in at least 2 places. There also appears to be some ghosting going on in the clouds.

Great image of Bow Lake, I like it a lot. The shapes of the clouds are fantastic, as is the combination of the reflection and pebbles below the surface. Looks like you had some fine weekend weather there - I was in the same place last week, and weather was, well, so-so...
