Elephant & Dust

You must be getting tired of my Mana Pools images...well I can't help myself

This bull was kicking up dust in the Zambezi riverbed (in the no-man's land between Zimbabwe and Zambia) in search of roots to eat. The setting sun provided plenty of ambience...

I was sitting on the riverbed wide open and exposed, taking in the magnificent scenes all around...wow...

Techs:
Nikon D3s with Nikkor 500mm f4 VR-II + 1.4xTC @ 700mm
f7.1 @ 1/1600 SS @ ISO-640
EV -0.3

The semi-silhouette of the elephant in the dust and light is so powerful! The little egret, unafraid next to that massive foot is a whole lesson in the natural world. Really caught a good one, Morkel! :toast:

Nice and clean with a lovely layered background. I think every bit of dust kicked up helps in scenes like this (I know I was looking for that last month). Though it doesn't add anything aesthetically, I like the little cattle egret by its foot.

Very nice silhouette with detail and I like that you can see a white bird by one of the legs, way to go.

Nice light and well exposed and processed Morkel. It is that cattle egret that makes the image special IMO.

Beautiful, Morkel. I like the atmosphere created by the dust cloud. Great tones, and nice work on the exposure. :toast:

Not sure how we can get sick of seeing excellent images Morkel?
Another winner to me. Love the light here and the flying dust tells the story. Nice work!

I like the layered bg, and the fact that you have managed to separate all the legs and the trunk, the dust....well, just about everything!
