Taken this spring in the Northern Sierras. The leaves on the black oaks were fresh and colorful.

D300, Tokina 12-24 @15, F16, 1/60, ISO 200. Comments and criticism highly appreciated.

Jim,

Nicely executed of your classic "lookin' up" image. I really like the backlit spring greens of the oaks and also the pines work well to break up the repetition. Might just be me, but do you think this would work well rotated 90deg cw? Just a thought, I think it might make a strong vertical. Of course this works nicely as presented. The sun works well too, not too overpowering, just right.

Your comp fills the frame very well and color looks nice and true. Any way to make the sun star a little more prominent?

Love the black branches against the bright greens. Nice balance to this image. The sunstar is a fine detail.

Jim,

thanks for the repost! Personally, I like it the orientation better. Of course we all have different "eyes," perceptions, etc. and of course you were standing there so you have the experience behind the image to know what feels right for you. From a backseat driver perspective, my thinking and perception goes along the line of: tall subjects are better portrayed in a vertical. Not always of course, but like any guideline, always nice to keep in the back of your mind.
