My husband spotted this one & I was thrilled to get some shots of it. It was not the aggressive snake I thought it was and I was able to get quite close! My sister is a herpetologist & tells me often that different snakes (within the same species) can have different personalities...

In answer to John...I used my 100mm macro lens...and very carefully...got very close! This was enormously exciting as I have always wanted to see one of these up close!

Very cool capture! What lens did you use? And the big question, how close were you? I love his facial expression.

Cool image! I like the way he's looking at you. Good DOF choice to emphasize his face.

Very cool, Eirini. The dof makes this interesting.

Eirini, the low, eye level perspective couple with the head on view makes this one a classic. I like the shallow DOF putting the head/eyes only in focus. I personally tend to think that a semi pano crop, eliminating some of the empty space, would make this even better. :toast:

Very nice "snake's eye" view. I really like the sharp nose and eyes and the fact that you see enough oof body to be sure it's a good sized snake. I like this as is, but can also see Scott's point about a crop from the top. I can attest to snakes with different personalities...a couple of years ago I had a garter snake that would rear up and start striking if I walked within 5 feet! They're normally pretty tolerant of handling.
