1st Place - Weekly Challenge

Surf Fishing

Ventura, CA. Solitary fisherman; misty dawn; flight of gulls. I'll take advantage of the weekly theme to resubmit an image from a couple of years ago. I cropped it from the bottom as many critiques suggested. I also brought up the luminance a bit.

Canon 5D MkII; 1/6 @ f/22; 200mm; ISO 100; EF70-200mm f/2.8L; warming CP; Induro tripod; cable release.

Wonderful, unique beach scene. Can almost feel the sea mist. The fisherman and birds in motion really add a lot. Nice light on the shore, too.

What a beautiful image Craig! The soft colors, the man fishing and the blurry birds all make for a really nice image. :toast:

My favorite part is the water sliding back down the beach. Certainly an unusual shot, but it works for me. The angler, the birds and the ocean are bit parts in this scene, useful for lending substance and scale to the beach.

Beautiful, surreal combined with real. I love the way the birds look and the way the water looks.

Wonderful composition. The high key look of the sky and birds really works well. Reminds me of white on white paper cutouts.

Unique and beautiful dawn beach scene. Looks quite peaceful! Great comp in this with the fisherman being fairly small and the beach filling most of the image. The sweeping lines of receding waves and the flock of blurred gulls in flight against the dawn sky add very nice elements to this photo. Great lighting and colors too. Nice image, Craig!

I definitely give this my stamp of approval. I love a graceful capture of motion in any image. The lighting is excellent. The perspective is unique. I am just wondering what the sinker is doing and about all of that slack monofilament line.

This is wonderful with both real and dreamy aspects. It would be a nice shot of the fisherman, but the lighting in the sky and the flying birds really make this special.

Craig, congrats on the WP. The gulls give a nice sense of motion in the image to enhace the surf.
