On Thick Ice

Well, I preferred to stay on solid mud, but a group of travellers is exploring the tongue of Athabasca Glacier (Banff/Jasper National Parks, CA). Weather was a bit unpleasant - rain, snow, ice, they all were falling from the sky once in a while. The following night was somewhat chilly, too...

Please let me know what you think!

I especially like the sky and B&W treatment Basil. Did you do the Ice Walk? I did with my family back in 2009. Never was on a glacier before that. Amazing place.

An awesome sight and size. Black and white suits this to a T. Excellent range of tones, really promoting the feel not only of the day, but of the place as well.

Thanks for commenting!

Eva - no, I didn't venture onto the ice. I guess I'll do that here in ole Switzerland one day (a bit embarrassing that I haven't done so yet, I have to say). I returned the next morning when the light was different and nobody was there to shoot some scenes closer to the tongue of the glacier, though. I guess some of them will surface in the Landscape gallery at some point.

Excellent composition and conversion. An impressive sight, especially with the line of hikers there for scale.

I was here in early July, what a neat place. I like that you included the tour group. They really set the perspective. Your b&w treatment works very well here.
