Seagulls are a constant presence at the beach in New Jersey. This is one of many different varieties seen strolling the shoreline, looking for food.

Panasonic DMC-FZ28. 48mm at F/6.3 for 1/500 sec. ISO 100. Taken several years ago. Handheld (I think), natural lighting.

48mm? Did this guy peck you or did you feed him? Nice one. I like the light reflecting up under the bird from the beach and the breaking wave. The objects on the beach are puzzling. Are they stones or small shells? They seem elongate and all the same size.

Robert, 48mm is what the camera specs told me! It was taken several years ago but I think I do recall this guy left me sneak fairly close to him. Those longish objects are a type of tiny sand clam. They wash in with the waves and then quickly try to burrow down into the wet sand as the water recedes. However, many also get stranded on the beach. Depends on what the tide brings as to how many come in at a given spot. My grandkids love to try and catch these guys before they burrow back down into the sand.

I like the tack sharp clams and bird set against the breaking wave. I've never seen this many coquinas out of the water at once. Your grandkids, heck, I like to catch them as they burrow back into the sand.

Really nice detail in the gull. I like the highlights sprinkled around the gull and the muted reflection in the sand.
