Nuclear Glow

Inverness Beach, Cape Breton Island, Canada

It was a stormy, stormy, night..... (to quote Snoopy in a Peanuts cartoon). I took this a while back on a cold, windy, stormy evening on Inverness Beach. The sunset glow is very typical of my favorite beach even on stormy nights. Later that evening, for sure I thought the little vacation cabin I was staying in up on the cliff above the beach, would be tossed into ocean. Needless to say, I was not blown off the cliff, but I did not get much sleep that night.

BTW - I was looking through my archives to post something nuclear since our oldest son passed his qualifier for his PhD in Nuclear Engineering & Science at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute yesterday.

Wild contrasting colors here, Eva. It does look like some foreboding weather and tough seas too. The image impact makes us want to seek shelter for sure.
Also, congrats on your son passing the qualification exams for PhD in the Nuclear program. :toast:

Eva, this photo does not have the superb composition that I am used to seeing in your images. The colors are beautiful, but I could have taken this photo!

I keep hoping you will post one of your images in the Weekly Challenge gallery. The theme for this week is "Beach Scenes" - right up your alley!

And congrats on your son's accomplishment.

Eva, there is a kind of immediacy in your image that draws my attention. At first sight I thought it was taken on analog film because of its interesting grainy character that is consistent with the atmosphere to my eye. Your choice of shutter speed shows me texture and motion of the sea at the same time.

Very nice, Eva. I like the sense of being out on the water here as well as the beautiful color.

Hi Eva,

I think you found a fitting image - congrats to your son on the PhD!

Quite a simple coast sunset, yet beautiful and flirting with dramatic with that "nuclear glow." I imagine you had a few shutter releases during this sunset, but I think you chose wisely with this one the way the incoming waves are arranged in the foreground here. Love the color too.

Love the steel blue color of the water combined with the blazing red sunset glow. A beautiful shot Eva.
