St. Mary Lake Sunrise

This shot was taken last week at St. Mary Lake - Glacier NP. The sunrise looked promising, but the clouds exploded in color once the sun came up. There was just a bit of haze from the wildfires in Idaho, so I don't know if that heightened the color or not, but it was stunning.

5DIII, 24mm TS/E, three vertical shot blend using the shift feature of the TS/E - stitched in PS. 1/50 sec, f11, ISO 800 (the wind was blowing pretty good so I had to try to stop tree movement).

Please view the large version for more detail - also it's best viewed in Firefox for most accurate color.

Thanks to Mark Metternich for a great job of guiding me to some epic spots in Glacier NP.

Oooh, this is sweet! I opened this up and my eyes popped with delight. I have no nits at all - just a gorgeous image. I really like the inclusion of the FG grass area. I can imagine myself there taking all this in. Very nicely done.

Wick - I especially like the way the FG trees form a cradel that is repeated by the mountain's form. Beautifully done.

The larger version really shines Wick! Those clouds seem just a tad oversaturated, but wou did say that the color was intense. Stromg image!

The large version helps the foreground which doesn't really engage in the smaller version by bringing out some nice details. Problem when you get such nice light that it can make other parts of the scene pale a bit.

Wow. Dynamic color, depth and texture. This is so compelling it makes me want to run down the hill toward the water.

Sweet shot Wick. Love the epic sky and the majesty of the scenic. The fg flowers and trees are very nicely arranged in your comp. Nice one!

Hey Wick, I just got home and am finally resting up a bit. Great job on this! :toast:

On my monitor the colors look very realistic. I'm impressed how the 24TS/E worked here.

It was a pleasure showing you around and I look forward to more of your images.

Super nit picky: maybe a slight ccw rotation. For some reason the water (on the large version) seems a hair tilted. Cheers!
