Nope, Not Him

Thought that this might be Barney but a check of earlier photos shows his rack isn't big enough. Very similar facial features with the quite obvious eye rings and eye brows. Nevertheless, a good photo experience with this guy during an early morning jaunt to my local nature preserve. Between this guy and another one a few hundred yards further on, I spent over an hour just watching and photographing. They were not perturbed in the least that I could see. I thought it was going to be a slow morning as I saw this guy quickly walking across the field to get away from me. Or so I thought. When I finally came upon him he was hardly concerned about my presence. I think moving slowly and not trying to get closer were the key items here. But I did get close enough at one time (he moved, not I) when I almost had too much lens. That doesn't happen too often. Got a couple of other images I'll share in coming days. A full frame image and no adjustments in PSE except for sizing and sharpening. Comments and critiques welcome and appreciated

May not be Barney, but still a nice image! I like the pose you caught him in. That one OOF stem is unfortunate, does sort of distracts. Looking forward to seeing more. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the comment John. Getting a clear shot is near impossible on the preserve. Something always seems to be sticking up in the wrong spot. I had lots of nice poses today but also lots of veg. in the way. Always a challenge that keeps me coming back. The hunt for Barney continues. I haven't seen him since June, so I expect he will be quite a show when we cross paths.

Hi Peter, your remark about 'very similar facial features' made me laugh; in my experience antelope of one species all have similar facial features.
You are right about moving slow, that is key with approaching wildlife.
I like the look back pose here and the catch light helps a lot to draw the viewers eye. Good job on obtaining a near unobstructed view of him in this dense habitat.

I like the pose, but I think to make this truly work, one needs light that just was not there. I am enjoying your returning and showing us different encounters from the same nature area!

Agree, Lon, about the light. Nothing special. Had really just cleared the horizon and still needed to get higher to make it's way thru the vegetation. I, too, am looking forward to future encounters with the critters there.
