Chilkat Eagle

Hey everyone! So sorry I haven't been posting lately! My dad got crazy busy doing design stuff for his job and had to use the photography computer. Right after that we got to go to Alaska!! Man, it was a blast!

We spotted this eagle about 20 minutes out of Haines, Alaska. He was perched in a tree in the Chilkat Eagle Preserve. We knew it was a little early for eagles for the salmon run, but kept a sharp eye just in case. Luckily we spotted this guy in one of the better trees that was around. I was happy he chose one of the dead trees instead of the dense ones that were around, I think it adds some interest.

What I really love about this image is the fall colours in the background and the eagles pose!

Thanks for looking!!

Sounds like you had a great trip. Great "eagle eye" in finding this one.

Proof positive that the bird does not have to fill to frame to have an excellent image. I too love the fall colors. Nice composition and details.

I just love these kind of images, Jenaya, where the subject occupies a small part of the image, thus showing off the habitat in which it resides. Well done!

The beautiful foliage in the background really makes this an incredible image Jenaya. I wonder if maybe a little bit should be cropped off the bottom.

A very pleasing environmental photograph to look at Jenaya  The beautiful autumn colors seem to enhance the eagle. Excellent composition.

Jenaya, when I was watching you photograph this eagle and doing my best to position the car to your specifications for the best angle, I did NOT envision you were getting anything close to this. The viewer would have had to be there to realize you more than got the most out of this opportunity. This is another instance that proves you are developing VISION as a photographer instead of merely snapping pictures of what's in front of you. Great decisions all-around on techs and comp. And the pose you captured and chose to post is just fantastic...not necessarily the classic, iconic eagle pose but very endearing and fitting in this environment. I love this natural image, Jaye! Great work.

Gorgeous image Jenaya - love your choice to put the Eagle up in the frame and the contrast between the cool darks of the tree and the Eagle against the warm autumn tones - beautiful and well seen.
