Candy Corn

Gallery: Macro & Close-upPosted October 1, 201281 views3 comments
While out taking photos of deer this morning, I noticed this brightly colored fungus. The lobes on it reminded me of the candy corn that comes out each fall for Halloween. I have not seen this before and my field guides give me zip, so if anyone knows what it is, please let me know. Found near Sacramento, CA. This is a little bigger (6 inches) than the guidelines for Macro/Close Up, but I think it is still the best fit for it. Comments and critiques welcomed and appreciated.

Hi Peter. Works fine in this gallery. I can't help with the ID, but hopefully someone can. I don't recall seeing anything quite like this. The color and detail show well against the bg. Thanks for sharing.

Neat fungus and it shows up well, Peter. You might try checking with your local Mycological society. If they're like the one up here, they'll be having some kind of festival this fall and you could take a print of your image.
