A lone red rose begged to be photographed. Taken at Longwood Gardens using my Canon 7D, 100-400 IS lens.

Comments appreciated.

Patricia - Beautiful Rose and glad you stopped by to shoot this one. I like how that small portion of the center is seen in the composition and the clean background.

Light though a bit on the harsh side is well handled. With that long a lens, managing a diffuser would be problematic I guess.

Nice rose, I like it. At first glance the light seems harsh but I think it works well in this image. The darker shadows set off the sunlit central part of the flower.

Patricia:
The depth and the sharpness of the edge make me think this was a stacked image until I read your comment. Guess the long lens compressed the background into a blur and yet giving sufficient DOF for the bloom. Very nicely done.

Love the high contrast lighting and the positioning of the flower in the frame, Patricia. The sweep of the petals and the reds look so lovely, too, on this mottled background. Beautiful !!!

Excellently composed and finely detailed image with nice simple colors in very good light. A great POV. The shallow depth of field is integral in separating the red rose from the background, and more importantly, allowing the rose to remain the focal point. I like it! Very well done Patricia.
