Adult "Interior" variant, male

D800
500mm
Subject dist: 5.31m
1/200 sec, f/4.5
Mode: Av
Metering: Spot
ISO: 500
White balance: Auto

Hand-held as (almost) always
this is 6.7% of the original frame! LOVE this D800

If bird photography doesn't teach me patience, nothing will. I sat quietly for 3 hours today by a small flock of these very hyperactive guys darting in and out of the dried seed heads, and got 4 decent images out of the 450 I shot. yikes. Worth it? You bet!

Sandy, your subject is a beautiful one! For 500mm focal length, you got fantastic detail, the kind of detail that makes me smile. That habitat is perfect. Interesting choice of crop and it does work well! Lighting is fine, fine, fine!

You nailed this one!

These guys are tough and this is very good Sandy, showing behavior and habitat nicely. The vertical pano crop works well too. :toast:

A moment in time, a moment in 450 frames, I'm glad you feel this worth your time. It is a real joy to view and examine. Outstanding image! :jump: :jump: :jump:

Your morning sounds like mine, and yes, it's worth it! I love the challenge of going after the little guys! I like this crop and the nice light. The fluffy seed pods really add to the softness of the light, and your bird is nicely detailed. Sharon

A difficult subject - I've tried with no success on this species a few times.

This held up very well to the severe crop. I also like the proportions on this.

Interesting image Sandy. I'd never have guessed the crop to be that large. I really like the similar colors in bird and setting.

That is some very nice detail for such a crop, I like the composition showing the habitat, way to hang in there to get this shot.

All those pixels really helped out here Sandy. Very nice for the extreme crop. Really like the overall feel of this shot. Really nice IMO.
