I observed the Inca Dove move to this roost from the ground. It then proceeded to lift its tail high into the air 10-12 times, pausing each time. It did this for almost a minute. I'd never seen it before, thought it worth the post..Besides, I think it was trying to tell me something:wink:
F/8, 1/400th, ISO 640, 1D M3, 300mm f/2.8 + Kenko 2x ext around 11:00am and cloudy/overcast.

GREAT pose !
Maybe it's constipated.
Nice detail, comp, and the leaves balance this nicely.
Thanks for the laugh!

Very interesting. I see this behavior all the time with the much larger White-winged Doves but never with an Inca Dove. The display I'm used to seeing is the raised wing to show the rufous underside used when other birds get too close.

Image quality is quite nice and I like the composition.

A very nice look at a dove species I have never seen before. Good BG, good perch and a ridiculous pose! Can't beat that with a stick!

Howard, Interesting pose and nice composition. Nice job with the tail whites. I really like the scaling on their wings and head.

Here the doves do this sometimes and part of courtship, but then the question is whom was it aimed at? You ? . Nice shot anyway. Cheers, Hans

Yep, I think this bird is trying to tell you something. Good timing to get this, I like the detail of the dove and you have just enough eye contact. I also have seen this behavior on WW dove's but never from an Inca dove. Well done, a very nice find.

Inca doves are beautiful. 2 have recently shown up in my backyard. I really like this pose. I don't speak dove, but I think he was saying not to stand right behind him.

Fun shot with excellent detail Howard, I was thinking that many female birds will lift their tales when they are inviting a male to mate. :toast:
