Pronghorn impressionism

Pronghorn normally are found in an almost monochrome environment, depending on season...greens or yellow browns. Now is the shoulder of the seasons between summer and winter and vegetation assumes other, more subtle hues. I kept the lens open for a shallow depth of field, hoping for a background of color accents, reminiscent perhaps of impressionism. Image is processed without in-camera sharpening, then sharpening applied only to the pronghorn to help lift him from that background.

Neat image Lon, I do think you were successful in separating the pronghorn from the bg. Colors look nice too. No nits from me!

Love the fall BG, and the antelope IS nicely-separated. Nice pose and detail too.

Very nice work Lon, I think you were successful in both the impressionistic effort with the more colorful foliage and the selective focus/sharpening. Beautiful animal as well with the black nose and neck.

Your DOF certainly helped isoslate this guy. Worked quite well. This image is really best seen in the larger version. It looks to me like the scene itself, minus the pronghorn, could stand alone. Given that you've got a really nice animal to start with, this is a great image. Well composed and exposed.

This is a delightful image Lon, I love the combinations of greens, rust, yellow browns and reds in the frame. I'm very fond of Pronghorns and images of them and this image shows of their beauty well.

Beautiful! I quite like his pose! Awesome detail in the Pronghorn's fur, and very nice catchlight in the eye. No nits from me! :wavey:

Lovely "proud" pose, soft light and pleasing hues here Lon.
Have you tried opening up shadow detail on the nearest part of the face/antlers a wee bit?

Beautiful surroundings and a good pose to boot. I think that the overall exposure could be brought up just a touch to bring out some of those colors :toast:
