Kluane Moose

We spotted this guy JUST outside of Kluane National Park, Yukon Territory, quite close to Alaska's eastern border. Definitely one of the more cooperative moose we've run into this year! He actually stood like this for 5 minutes or so, which gave me time to make sure my histograms were good. Sadly not one of those famous giant Yukon moose you've seen, but we learned the hunting season opened a few days before we arrived and there was lots of pressure so we were thankful to even find one!

I really like the open space around him because it shows off the habitat he lives in. This is full-frame.

Thanks for looking!

Great detail in this one Jenaya. Nice comp and a real good luck at his habitat. Although he has a pretty wide set of antlers there aren't much for palms yet so I believe this is a young bull. Still a pretty impressive animal. It was nice that he was so cooperative for you. Good job.

Beautiful country and animal Jenaya. I like how the two oof trees frame the moose. Nice detail, dof and habitat! This is a winner for me!

Love the colours in this one, Jenaya.
I also like the framing between the trees, though I'm unsure if it's better suited to crop from the LHS so that the tree trunk forms a border of the image?

He looks wonderful and the lush surroundings are nicely rendered. For my tastes, the oof foreground trees are a significant distraction however, but I am sure there was nothing you could do about that in the situation.

Thanks for the comments!

Morkel: I originally agreed, but after trying several different crops, and much experimenting, we decided it looked best full frame.

Very nice natural framing - it adds a lot of depth. I'd keep the framing as is, but I'd probably tone down the saturation of the bright leaves to the left of the left oof tree, and maybe blur it slightly. Hope that makes sense.

Really nice fall colors and I like the perspective you took looking through the trees, it gives you a sense of being there, well done!

Beautiful capture, Jenaya. The out of focus foreground works very well for focusing the eyesight on the elk, although it's not "perfect". The left part of the frame detracts a bit.
