Butch, a nice image overall! Interesting pose from this wonderful bird. Lighting however, seems uneven. The birds head is underexposed IMO and doesn't stand out from the flora behind it. Hope this helps!

Where was this taken?

Without actually seeing the bird in the field I have a hard time judging size, but I think you are correct on the ID if this is from North America. I'd say this is a juvenile bird. Nice getting it out is the open for such a clear view.

Richard, this was shot in klamath basin in Tule lake area CA. Thanks for your help in IDing the Rail, which I also thought was Juv.

What a nice opportunity to find a this rail out in the open. One of the more cleaner shots I have seen which really shows off the feather color patterns, way to go.

Butch, you don't see many shots this clean of the species - that alone is an accomplishment. I like the mottled light and the fluffed pose. I'd give it a bit more room up top if I had it.

I've never seen this specie but this shot shows the bird with nice sharp detail and proper BG. TFS.
