Fall on the Shore

This is a view from Lake Lila looking at the ridge from which I shot the panorama I posted last night. The angle was a little tricky because I wanted the lens to be close to the fallen white pine needles and red maple leaf, but still high enough to look over the tops of the rushes.

My tripod was set up in knee-deep water. I routinely pack a pair of hip boots in my canoe for shooting in the water because it's very difficult to find clear vistas from shore in the densely-forested Adirondacks.

Canon 5D2; 24mm.
3 exposures for focus-blending, plus another for the sky, hand-blended in CS5.

Please see larger version.

Very nice image Wayne. I really like the colors and the foreground maple leaf.

This is really a nice fall scene, Wayne. The pine needles and maple leaf make a great foreground here. The large version looks even better. Very nice!

That single maple leaf is artistic genius. what an eye-grabber. The brilliant foliage on the slope is frosting on the cake. Great image

Very nice. Really love the foreground and the connections in the different layers. Light looks near perfect.

This is a great find! I love the colors of the eastern mountains in fall. Just an observation, the foreground, or fore and midground here is a great image in and of itself. Did you try that?

Wayne, another very nice autumn scene from the Adirondack area. Love the multilayer combination without feeling overwhelmed by it.

Wayne,

Excellent autumn image as presented. Not thrilled with the sky, but you've done well to include just enough to not make the autumn mountain feel cramped. I gotta go with the others here and say the real image is in the floating pine needles and leaf. A great nature image/abstract by itself.

Very pretty Wayne. It doesn't quite have the WOW factor of your last image but, then again, very few images do! Pretty color in the trees, but what really attracts me is the floating grass and leaf in the FG.

Beautiful fall scene. The sky isn't much of an eye catcher, but made the rest of the image shine with the nice overcast. An intimate with the leaf and surrounding needles might be th other comp from this scene. Well prepared with those boots. With a canoe, you can afford to pack a little of those extras. :toast:

Thanks everyone. I kind of expected this would not attract a lot of attention, so I am really happy about all the comments about shooting the more subtle lower 2/3 of this view. Yes, I did shoot just the lower part -- both horizontals and verticals. (quick samples attached). In fact, that's what attracted me to this spot before I discovered I could wade out far enough to the mountain in the background. I have lots of stuff to post, and I had problems with reflections interfering with the pattern of the floating pine needles, so I may have to save those for a less busy time.
