Cataloochee Valley

Drove over to Cataloochee Valley, North Carolina, to photograph the elk; what an incredible site they were to see. But I also loved seeing the start of the fall colors here in Western North Carolina.

This image is a stand of trees at the forest line just behind the herd of elk. A misty morning but still a lovely day. I used PostworkShop Pro to enhance the colors and transform it into a painterly look.

Camera is a Nikon D7000 with Tamron 200-500mm lens. Can't wait to get out there and photograph more fall colors. Thanks for taking a look.

I like the mood you've captured and produced here.

Would like to see a larger version..

I like the painterly effect and the yellow/blue color combo. The "shattering" in some of the upper tree trunks is also interesting. I'm not sure about the 50:50 yellow/blue split and wonder about cropping the top 1/3 of the sky, but I do like what's going on up there.
