I know I've posted similar images of this same scene, but I hope you'll indulge me. It's near my house, so I'm using it as a learning experience for shooting and editing. I'm trying to get better at low light shooting before I go after the milky way, etc.

I took this yesterday on the way to work. I have to leave before sunrise this time of year. I almost had to leave before real twilight yesterday. There is a bit more detail in the trees than was visible by eye. When I arrived, I had to squint to discern trees.

Any comments welcome. Which one do you like better? This one has more sky as I felt there was enough interest showing and the landscape was so dark.

This is nice, but I definitely prefer the previous horizontal image you posted the other day. This has the same mystery and mood, but the other seemed to have more definition in the darker areas. On both of them, the thumbnail and small image disappoint; this is definitely one that has to be seen large to be appreciated, which I suspect is the reason you had so few comments of the last one. Large, they ROCK!!

Brad - I definately feel the mood of othis time of day, but still looks too dark in the FG. While I'm sure it was actually this dark and darker, I think a brighter FG can still give you the same feeling but with more color and definition in the trees. Some of the better night scenes I see still have pretty good exposure even when we know it was actuallly much darker. That is where the art of photography comes in. The straight river is not as dynamic for me - not sure if you can photograph it at more of angle? I see a lot of potential in this view, especially with the big sky and colorful trees in the fall. If those clouds light up at sunrise, they will reflect some beautiful light back to the trees and really make them glow.

This one is too dark for my tastes. If you had the milky way instead of the clouds in the sky, it would be lovely but as a landscape (vs a night sky) there's little to engage me. It's a great location and I like that you keep returning to it.

This is as bright as I can go with this one without it getting too noisy. Even the large view on NPN is losing a lot of detail. It looks much better in LR. Sadly, on my drive home, I noticed that it looks like most of the leaves fell off today.

Thanks for the feedback.
