Golden Dune Sunrise

Inverness Beach, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia

My first film image from my Cape Breton trip of my favorite beach. Nothing dramatic. Just a cloudy sunrise with the sun rising to my right. The dune I am standing on is ~40 ft high. A once gentle path down to the beach was destroyed by a severe storm the previous winter and is now a sheer 40 ft drop. A steeper path was carved out by the local beach walkers further to my left.

What strikes me most are all the layers detailing the scene. This is proof that intense, dramatic skies aren't always necessary to make a great image. I like the square format, btw...

A simple composition, and as you said, "Nothing dramatic." But it's the details -- especially in the larger version -- that compel me to keep exploring this beach, the water and the distant shoreline. The right side is just as interesting as the rest of the scene, and even adds a something a bit different, but I think that squaring this up with a crop from the right might simplify it even more, making it more "pure" in its concentration on the details of the beach and water.

Maybe not dramatic, but a very nice image with excellent earth tones and nice warm light. What I particularly like here are the layers in the scene.

You have certainly mastered the gentler colors of nature. This is wonderful. I love the light and nice pastels. Interesting layers

I love the color you've captured Eva. Subtle coloration at it's best. Very pretty.

Nothing dramatic as you note, but very peaceful to look at. I too like the nice gold tones.

An exceptional image for me, Eva. Your composition based on horizontall layers works extremely well to my eye. The fantastic colors together with the incredible details of the diverse textures make this image unique for me. One of my top favorites from your work so far.

Love the colors and textures. Only drawback for me is it's a bit bus—some simplification might enhance even more.
