This is a small Orbweaver spider (about the size of a penny including its legs) that I shot last spring in my garden. I posted a different version at that time. I thought this one with the blood red bg  was more suited for Halloween. The bg is from red rhododendron blossoms. Nikon D700, 180 macro, ext tube. Comments, questions, and suggestions welcome. :wavey:

The spider literally glows against the blood red background. I like the composition with the radiating web strands.

Scott, great macro image! The vibrant, contrasting colors really work well here and I like the comp as well. Nice work!

Beautiful shot, Scott. Spiders are really difficult for me. I think this is one of the Leucauge species. There are two in the US.

FANTASTIC! I can't say enough about this image to convey how much I like it. The spider is wonderful; the background is perfect; and the web not only tells the story of the creature, it also makes an absolutely gorgeous artistic setting. You did everything just right on this one!

P.S. I think you should bring this back as the CHRISTMAS SPIDER, too! :jump:

These tiny arachnids are beautiful in themselves, but I see you've taken it to another level
Really like the 'blood red' contrasting color of your BG..
I especially like how the Orchard spider's highlighted by this light:toast:
