Rain Walking Away

by Nancy Lea Sandy

A couple of weeks ago, I went walking in the rain...a misty drizzle that seemed to move silently away from me as I wandered. The dampness muffled my footsteps and soaked every thing around in rich colors and muted light. The forest absorbed me until I was neither alone nor apart. I hope this image captures the mood of that day. It's double processed and blended to increase tonal range. Still trying to learn new processing skills so please be liberal with your criticism and useful suggestions. Thanks for looking

Cant help you with the processing Nancy, the scene has a very natural look, just what you would expect it to look like on a drizzly morning, the colors look quite good, including the white Birch, the only thing that distracts me is the sky, if it takes away from the scene, find a way to eliminate it. I love forest scenes, and most times they can be quite difficult to process, especially on wet dreary days, anyway Nancy , I think you did a great job, and yes, you captured the mood.

Processing looks really good, Nancy. I like the low perspective and the grasses. Gives the image interest and a color.

Nancy, I like the feeling of this image. I also think it looks very natural for a damp foggy day in the woods. Fine image.

Liking this a lot. Quite moody with the fog and clouds on a rainy day. But that imparts a softness to the scene and saturates the colors. Although this was taken way far from no. New England, it still has the feel of there with the pioneering poplar (which probably would be birch in Maine) into an old field or pasture there. Well done.

Nancy, I would say you certainly captured the mood of your walk in the woods. I can feel the misty rain and the quietness of the woods. This comp also works well for me. Very nice!

A very nice portrait of the birches to me, Nancy. All the other elements make for a balanced framing in my opinion. Beautiful natural colors for me, too.

Oooh, this shot is 'all over the place', Nancy--but somehow the fog pulls it together for me--two thumbs up! :toast:

Lots of character in that tree; I like it! Nice job with that fog in the background; it really helps set the mood.

I like this a lot Nancy. Beautiful golden grass and very nicely composed. The processing was handled perfectly IMO. One help hint perhaps - I would have chosen a smaller aperture than f/7 to increase DOF. F/11 or F/16 might have been a better choice IF you wanted to increase DOF. If it was your desire to limit DOF, f/7 was fine. Beautiful scene.

The only criticism I can muster has nothing to do with the image, but with the presentation. I would rather see this against a dark BG instead of a white one, I think that would help a lot.

The saturated color and muted light gives the feel of damp rainy conditions.
