2nd Honorable Mention - Environmental Photojournalism

Wolf Kill

I photographed this deceased wolf on the shoulder of the highway last week. It made me very sad to see this beautiful animal's smashed body left in the snow. This is such an old problem, but nothing really seems to have changed.

Sad indeed, Gary. Let's hope this wolf led a good life and procreated his/her replacement. However, a wild guess would be that this is a juvenile just learning how to cope with a complex world. Thanks for sharing and causing me to reflect on this.

Very sad - wolves have enough trouble existing without dealing with traffic too.
Hopefully it died quickly and did not suffer.

Sad indeed. One more thing that wolves have to contend with.

Powerful image. So many of us are canine lovers; wolves have a special place in our hearts as the ancestors of our domestic family members. This tugs on our heart strings.

Very powerful photograph Gary. The overall muted tone of the image with the traces of blood is very impactful. A well-deserved WP.

Sad fact of life in the 'fast' lane, well documented Gary.
I live in a rural area of Texas, where this is a very common sight.
Not wolves of course, but every other indigenous four legged critter..
Congrats on the WP :toast:
