White Pelican

Lake Livingston, TX November 2012 (My "for web" images are still darker and slightly different in color than my originals. Using PS CS6. I was on the wrong color space before after having to reload PS after a hard drive problem and moved to sRGB. Problem is not fixed. This is a plea for help. )

D3 ISO 320. 300/2.8 with 2x tc. f8 1/3200s. Handheld from a boat. 1 pm in bright sun- It worked for me here. I like the top lighting and the feathers are translucent enough to give adequate light to the underwings. (I shoot my D3 and 300mm on the boat now since losing my original D4 with 500mm lens in the lake in May)
My husband and I were boating on Lake Livingston last week when we spotted a flock of about 3000 Neotropic Cormorants with about 80 white pelicans among them floating on the surface of the lake. We headed for them with our trolling motor. As we neared them, the cormorants took flight in an almost single file manner, circling around us both left and right for 2 full rounds. The pelicans joined in the flight pattern. The visuals were exquisite and the sound was symphonic.
