Spotted Eagle Owl

This is my first image of an Owl in flight. I had to wait 2 1/2 hours for it to take off. The small twigs are unfortunate but show the type of habitat.

Model: NIKON D4
Lens (mm): 600
ISO: 560
Aperture: 8
Shutter: 1/4000
Exp. Comp.: -0.7

Thank you for looking and comments.

WOW! What a great capture. Love the wing position, the action, and surrounding environment. Not the tinest of nits from me.

A really nice pose of this ragged looking owl - I don't mind the twigs, but the larger image looks very soft (especially compared to the smaller image). Was this a large crop or did something go wrong in post-processing?

I think the twigs add to it. The eye just pops right at you. Great job

Nice capture. The twigs don't bother me at all. I agree the large image suffers in the sharpness dept. A bit more eye contact would be nice but that was beyond your control, it sure wasn't lack of patience on waiting for the shot. Well done. :toast:

Thank you very much for your comments, I will look at the larger version as it definately not soft on the original.

I cant seem to delete the lager version to replace it with a reprocessed image.

Really nice image and well worth the wait. Larger image is soft.

Great position on the bird, good lighting/colors and the twigs add context IMO. Agree with others that the larger version looks a bit soft.

Neal, great flight pose. I assume all the black specks are small, flying insects. I agree with the softness issue of the larger version.

Wow, waiting 2,5 hours and then not missing.. Good job ! You know what they say about 'vigilant jobs': reaction speed decreases rather steeply - so all my compliments and congrats to you ! The Owl looks a little sleepy , and feathers rather ruffed - was it in an okay shape you think? Anyway, I like the shot a lot ! Cheers, Hans
