Green vine snake
by Ajit Huilgol
This is the same vine snake I posted some months ago, and this image is one of several I made that day.
There are lots of snakes, some poisonous, in and around Bangalore, a city of 9 million in South India. Snake rescuers are in great demand and this vine snake was one such that was rescued from a house. I helped in releasing the snake in a forest nearby and made lots of images during the release. I have removed some background twigs and oof branches during post-processing.
The green vine snake is mildly poisonous, causing local swelling and pain, but no deaths have been recorded so far.
Species: Green vine snake (Ahaetulla nasuta)

Date: Jan, 2012
Equip: Canon 7D, Canon 70-200 at 200mm

Thank you for taking time out to look, and for your comments/critiques.

Great colours n beautiful snake.I too would have loved to see full neck on the right edge. Banding is already seen by Vincent.

While the head and wide gape on the mouth command one's attention here, what really caught my eye was the very interesting green, white, black patterning on the body of the snake (and Sandy's "braided rope" terminology describes it well). While I wish the edge of the body wasn't clipped by the right side of the frame, my attention wasn't really drawn by that. I looked for the repetitive pattern that Vincent was referring to but all I can see is what appears to be slight JPEG artifacting on that continuously-toned background (or, in this case, not-so-continuous toning!
Cheers...thanks for sharing this...

I see the banding Vincent alluded to - could in fact be artifacting?
Sweet One!!!
