Just Passing Through
by Peter Cross
Out to the local nature area this morning to see what was going on as this was the last dry day for a spell. I was on the top of a small knoll watching a couple of does feeding and keeping an eye out for a buck who might be watching as well. After a bit, this buck stepped out of the wooded area but showed no interest in the does and just walked right across the field and into the woods on the other side. So much for the rut. Nevertheless he's a pretty handsome fellow and his rack is very impressive when viewed head on. This image, though, was the best of the series. Cropped about 15% to decentered the buck in the image. Nothing else except for sharpening for the web. The smaller version is suffering from compression so please look at the larger one as it is of better quality. Comments and critiques welcomed and appreciated.

4 commentsMy comments closely reflect those of Gary's, so I won't repeat them. One thing I've noticed in a few of your shots is the use of a teleconverter at focal ranges where it's not needed - such as here were you are "zoomed out" and even with the TC you're at a focal length of only 137mm (and the lens shot without the TC goes 63mm beyond this). TC's always reduce image quality somewhat, reduce your aperture choices, can negatively impact on the accuracy and speed of your AF system, and also reduce the quality of the bokeh in an image. So...my suggestion is that unless you absolutely need them, if I were you I'd avoid using them.
Cheers...thanks for sharing this one...
