A Buck's Tale #5

Final photo in this little series shows Mr. Patient lifting his head after getting his nose down into the spot where the doe urinated. I looked at this photo and couldn't tell if he was doing a lip curl or not. But as they say in the NFL: "Upon further review"--- I was able to zero in on his nose in PSE and he was doing a lip curl. Just not as exaggerated as the buck in the previous series. So after this, he then took off following his doe into the woods. Did he determine if she was ready to breed? Don't know but things did look promising. End of series. Hope you enjoyed even if they weren't the best photos compositionally, but I liked the story they told. If the weather cooperates, I'm headed out tomorrow early am to see if I can capture another nice group. The only things I did to this photo was to warm it slightly, resize for NPN, and sharpen for the web. Comments and critiques welcomed.

Peter, nice portrait of this guy, I do think it is tight at the bottom and I find the feet cut off to be a distracting. Also, IMHO this would have been better in a vertical format. Good series, have enjoyed it. Maybe you can do season 2 when fawns arrive next year? Thanks for sharing all of these. Also, your larger image is a previous photo, not #5.

John offers good observations, so I won't repeat. Keep the chronicles coming!

Thanks for picking up my error on the larger version. I usually check to make sure everything looks okay but must have forgotten this time. Glad you've enjoyed the series. Lots of technical no-no's in many images but things just keep happening and it's sometimes difficult to stay in the best position and frame the scene. Out today in the rain. I hope a few worth posting but nothing that will play out as a story. Spring and the fawns is something I'd like to do but so far I've found it a very difficult season to work as the does seem to become more secretive (makes sense) and some, I think, move out of the preserve. Rut is not done yet so there maybe a few more to share.
