I believe this is an immature female. Shot from blind near bird feeders. Overcast sky.

ISO 400
Tripod

Cropped from left to de-center bird. Noise reduction in background. Slightlty sharpened bird. Darkened perch. This image lost a lot of detail during PP, not sure why. The original was tack sharp. C&C highly valued. Large version is better.

Great sharpness and catch-light in its eye. Just curious as to whether you used a flash. I've use a flash before, and it doesn't seem to bother the birds. I was wondering that because of the catch light and also the birefrigence on the feathers around the head.

I also really like the diagonal line of the perch.

We have slate colored juncos at our feeders all the time.

The larger image is plenty sharp. Pose, perch and bird are well displayed. The BG is a little busy, but this seems to be the kind of BG one gets in a set up. Regardless, a solid image.

Thanks for your comments John and Phil. John, there was no flash used. The catch-light, I think, is a reflection from a large window on my house, which is directly behind the photographer. I am curious about your statement about the biregrigence on the feathers around the head. I don't think I see what you are talking about there. However, I noticed a lot of moire patterning as I processed this image, especially on the wing, but other areas as well. Is this related to birefrigence (double refraction)?
