Found this while looking for captioned images our local photography club might use for its Christmas party. I took it about 6 months ago as part of the first assignment in an Intro to Nature Photography course at a local community college; "first light" in my yard.

The signature / caption is a poem by Aram Saroyan I first heard about as a senior in high school in 1965 as part of a political controversy. I liked it not only because of its depth, but because it was easy to memorize.

Data: Pentax K-5 (comparable to a D7000), Tamron 90mm f/2.8 macro at f/9.0, 1/80 s, and ISO 100, manual. Processed in ACR with sig added in PS.

I'm hoping to receive critique when I post images here, since it is my understanding that this is the purpose of this forum. This could apply to concept and/or technique.

John,

This is a beautiful and well crafted image - executed perfectly. YES, indeed it is all about the light and I think this is quite fitting to your prose in the Lounge, which I may comment there as well.

Honestly, I personally think this is more straight forward of the capture of light and think it would be perfectly fine in Landscape or Flora. Not a statement of defining what is "Photo Art" and what isn't, but as the galleries are set up here, I believe Photo Art to be more of a "manipulated" gallery. Your image here is straight forward - all be it, very well done.

As far as any critique for the image, my only suggestion would be to clone out the little cluster of leaves on the far left/lower edge of the frame. Clearly there are enough clusters of light-gathering leaves, and very nicely arranged, that the one on the lower left pulls the eye a bit out of the frame. But a minor detail.

I would say a very successful photography assignment! I expect you learned quite a lot about "seeing the light."

Well done.

Lon

I like this, John. It is a dark image but gives the impression that hope is always waiting around the edges of the darkness. The back lit edges give the impression of blown glass.
