While leading a workshop last week at the Bosque Del Apache, I was always on the lookout for other opportunities for the class participants.

Late afternoon backlight of this Phragmites provided a great option.

Canon 5D Mark III
500mm f/4 with 1.4x TC
1/800 @ f/9.0
ISO 400

Full Frame, minor contrast adjustment.

Thanks for your thoughts.

I like this Keith. I like the monochrome auburn color and the way you isolated the backlit subject from the background. Well seen and captured with your long tele. :toast:

Keith:
Good eye to spot the glitter in this single stalk supported by the darker bg of similar hue. Like the effect and excellent composition. We seldom see flora taken with long tele here.

Ditto to what Gary and Scott said. What plants are all about is catching and converting the light. So if plants could be on NPN, they would no doubt love this image almost as much as we do :toast: :jump:

Terrific catch on the lighting. The supporting cast adds both context and interest.

Excellent. I've tried something similar several times and am never satisfied with the results. Nicely done.

Keith: Good eye. I love this kind of grass as subject matter and I really like how you captured it with your long lens. The lighting ain't bad either . >=))>

Lovely, original image, Keith ! Love the sepia tones and the lighting works really well with this plant; beautifully composed, too, with perfect dof.

This is beautiful! I think you did an excellent job capturing the glow and movement (while keeping it sharp).

Great job of cashing in on this 'opportunity', the back lighting's very nice Keith.
You've taken the common reed & transformed it into a thing of great beauty.. :toast:
