The forest has eyes

This reminded me a bit of a Greenland whale, which also has green patches on its head sometimes. But this was a dead tree, lying in just the right angle for this picture.

Klampenborg nature reserve, Sweden, november 2012. 100 mm, 3 sec, f/25 (effective aperture), iso 200.

It's true that our eyes see eyes in the forest. Excellent eye on your part in this regard.
Beyond that, I love the contrast in the apparent fluidity of the lines in this against our knowledge that it is hard wood and the horizontal and vertical contrasts, and how, if the mind anthropomorphizes this, perhaps in the reptilian part of the brain, then the little lichens and mosses are like adornments for this fallen dinosaur, in its prime long before our birth.

And if that were true, what would it be thinking at this moment of our viewing, I wonder? What wisdom would it wish to tell? Could it be the admonition not to think too short-term?

You certainly captured something interesting. I love the detail in the "whale".

There is always something watching in the forest. It seems a bit reptilian to me, but I'm always seeing gators.

Great to see this and craft a nice image, telling a good nature story I think; right down to the lichen on the forehead! I think you could play around with the color balance and exposure - dropping some off the highlights. Maybe even toss in some additional blur in the bg to separate the head and eye even more from the background - but a minor suggestions.

Good catch, well seen and photographed.

I like this. I would blurr/darken the background a little and crop off about 1/4-1/3 of the top. Love the texture of the lock and moss.

This is a wonderful example of nature imitating nature. It's a great find, and nicely composed.

Thanks for the comments everybody, always interesting to hear other opinions!

Lon and Chad, I played around with your suggestions, and came up with this one. I changed the exposure a bit, and blended the original picture with an identical one which was shot with a larger aperture. The problem with that one was that the lichens started to blur a bit, so therefore I originally took the one with the smaller aperture. I also tried cropping from the top, but that made it a bit too tight to my taste. But I'm a pretty claustrophobic person, hehe.
