Munchin

A roadside "grab" shot in Zion National Park. Luckily, I had a 70-200 on the camera, but unluckily I didn't have the tele extender on. So this is a pretty significant crop of the original image. Got one shot and he was gone. That's a sprig of grass he's munching on.

Nikon D600, 70-200 f2.8, 1/200 at f5.6 handheld ISO 200.

Great environmental shot, with the ram in habitat. Nice pose and fine detail.
This would also be an excellent entry in this week's Weekly Challenge.

I like the awesome rocks in this shot as much as I do the ram! Very nice enviro shot, as sandy said. Quite a good "grab shot", although its too bad you didn't have time to throw the converter on!

Russ, I love those diagonal lines and the textures in the rocks. The light is rather harsh, but somehow suits this scene and on top of that the shadow detail is good. The larger version seems to have plenty detail; what do you call a significant crop. With a high res camera like that you can crop quite a bit you know.

Thanks Vincent. Yup, one of the things I'm really liking about this camera is the ability to crop. This is about 30% of the original frame, maybe a tad more. I looked at a crop of the ram and one bush and that worked well in terms of image quality and detail. I just had to include enough of those rocks to make it work overall for me. You can see his eyelashes in the uncompressed version!

A wonderful desert bighorn habitat photo. I really like all that texture in the rocks. Nicely seen and captured Russ.

Just jumped over from the landscape gallery to comment on this. I actually like the 'harsh' lighting. And what could beat the vibrant colors of the rock?
