Waves of Red

It's hard for me to describe this image, partly due to the fact I don't want to sound too artsy and cheesy. The fact of the matter is, this scene just speaks of patterns and textures. Quite amazed at how well some of the forms down here flow together. Comments and critiques appreciated as always.

Larger version is same size just higher resolution

Gorgeous capture Peter. I was at this place several years ago and at one point I was seeing animal and alien forms. Quite intoxicating. I love the simplicity of just form and color not over done. Beautiful work.

Thank you Eva, there are so many amazing shapes and forms that one could make out in this canyon the list would be quite lengthy. My favorite images from here were the ones that did not seem chaotic and very simple.

One of the simpler designs out of this canyon I've seen but just as effective. The reds are delicious. Funny that our two images next to each other seem complementary.

This is lovely, and I completely agree with what you decided not to say about it.
Wittgenstein, in his early work, wrote, "That which can be shown, cannot be stated."
This image transcends language; it should just be experienced in its visual purity.

Wow Peter! What an amazing display of textures, patterns, and contrast. Love the composition as well. This may sound strange, but I also noticed the amount of sharpening (if any) you used in this image. Seems to be perfectly sharpened, not too much and not too little. Would you mind sharing what you used for sharpening and how much?

Peter, the light in the distance is the main focal point for me in your image, and all the other elements help me to focus on this. Wonderful framing by the darker arch at the top and the rhythmic pattern in the lower part.

Thank you everyone, I appreciate the kind words.

Kah, I just took a look at your ice cave shot and it is quite complimentary to this for it's patterns and textures, and contrasts great with this.

Natalie, when I sharpen images for web I double the size I would normally post (720px on the long side would be 1440px) then apply two layers of sharpening. Then re-size back to 720 and apply any necessary USM layers until it is crisp.

Peter,

Beautiful slot image, expertly composed, crafted and presented. As many slot images we see over the years, it's really hard to tire of the beauty and grace one can extract from these canyons. I particularly like the sweeping arch framing the top of the scene.

Very minor nit, I would clone out the tiny spec that looks like a star just below the lip near the center line on the right side of the frame.

Agree, the sharpening is spot on. Excellent job with this one.

To me, this seems to be about the flow of light and patterns. The textures in the ss are incredibly uniform, but the erosional contours are always beautiful. Nice job

The waves and the reds are really special as is the framing arch. Great shot.
