Taken 12/5/12 at El Dorado Park, Long Beach, CA

Nikon D800 Nikkor 200-400mm 1.4TC 550mm White Balance Auto
RAW f/7.1 ISO 400 1/1250 Cropped and processed in CS6

Trout were planted at the lake today at 11:00. I arrived at around 2:30PM and was lucky to photograph this Osprey fairly close to the shoreline where I was located. This trout was clearly not planted today judging from its size. The Osprey was immersed, came up, flapped his wings and nearly got lift off before he lost the fish. He dragged it about 15 feet across the water.

Terrific image! The detail in the large version is great. Nice head-on pose and nice osprey eye. That is a huge fish; I'm not surprised he had to drop it.

That osprey had illusions of grandeur. Amazing shot. When I first saw it I knew the fish would be too heavy. A thought provoking image. Good job, Patrick.

Great shot. I've seen this happen a few times while fly fishing, but never captured the image. You've captured it beautifully.

Great timing on this Patrick! Love the low perspective and the over-sized fish!
