Yosemite Moments #11

Thanks for your comments on the previous post. This image here was captured from nearly the identical spot. I'm not even sure I moved the tripod. This would have been the immediate foreground to the previous image had I used a wider lens.

This is the first of a few images I captured from this gorgeous little rock and grass garden along the Merced river. That is the river at the top of the image btw. And in full disclosure, I cloned out a number of rocks where the tops were exposed in the water. I just pretended the water level rose....

So, a little departure from the trees. As always, I would love to hear your honest and insightful comments, very much appreciated.

Thanks!
Lon

Looks like some perfect lighting for this scene, Lon. The composition works absolutely perfectly too. Details in the larger version as well as the wonderful colors are amazing in that version too. Scenes like this always come across so nicely with the fact that they are not site or regional dependent. It could have been captured outside the park and it's still a super image without any iconic connection.

The color and lighting couldn't be any better, along with the detail and composition, one more added to my favorites. Fantastic Lon, love it.

Aren't there some trees in the background? :)

Love the textures here - especially that wet rock in the FG.

This may be a new favorite for me. The intimate detail and the soft inviting light makes me want to sit on the banks of the river for hours. Beautiful little garden you have brought us to. Thanks!

Wow Lon, I really like this image. The defused light and colors in the grass are gorgeous. Your composition flows nicely.
I wish I would of walked down the road that day and found you. Well done.

Sweet comp, textures, and colors. The triad in the front works really well. The only nit would be to maybe not have cut off the blades of the grass tuft in front, but that really doesn't take away from this at all. Excellent image, Lon.

Wonderful intimate image, Lon. I really like the contrast here. The darker water and rocks frame the lighter and more colorful plants. Polarizer used?

I really like this. The muted colors are great as well as the composition is great. I like the one clump of grass in foreground, then two clumps and then the grass in the back. I leads my eye right into the image.

Very pleasing composition, Lon, and it shows the transition to autumn color quite nicely. I am going back and forth as I scroll down about a crop that leaves the river out all together. Although the river provides context for the scene I find that I either want to see more of it or none of it. Of course I am being awfully picky with what is an excellent image.

Nice detail and wonderful color. It's a great little scene, best viewed large. As someone else mentioned you can feel the scene.

If I could have, this is what I would have framed up too! I didn't want to stand right in your spot, but should have anyway! Not sure exactly how you got this framing(tilt) I couldn't get this from where I stood.

Anyway, the comp is awesome, and the light too! This looks very clean to me, with no distacting or unwanted stuff at all. Beautiful!

Lon, This is really a wonderful image! Excellent comp. The dark rocks at the bottom and then the dark water across the top works great showing off the nice colors and detail of the grasses. This is really well done. The thumbnail sure doesn't do it justice, but when you click on it it jumps out at you...then the large version just comes alive! Beautiful!!

Looks even like you *first* looked for a proper fg, then you figured your lens is too long. Because this is a perfect image on its own, no need for a bg here. Really well designed, this works so smoothly on the eye. Good to have something a little bit different from the trees to mix things up.

Looks like a garden with the nice mix of plants and rocks. Beautiful balance between all the elements in this image. (wish it were that simple to raise the water level in a river) Nice job.

Nice little scene, Lon--really like the mix of greens and yellows here. Id be tempted to crop the top bg and use the colorful top as a frame. :wavey:
EDIT: ok i just realized that's the stream! Well, all the more reason to crop it because its too insubstantial to work as a bg subject, and no cloning needed either

Love everything about this, Lon. Elegance and grace were the first thoughts that came to mind when I saw this, and maybe a little envy as this is simply fantastic. Love those grasses of course and the mix of warm and green tones set against the rocks. Wouldn't change a thing.
