White-crowned Sparrow (Zonotrichia leucophrys)

Place: Water Ranch, Gilbert, AZ
Date: December 6, 2012 9:08 am
Equipment: Nikon D300, Nikkor AF-S 300/2.8 plus TC20E III (2x), Gitzo 1325, RRS BH55, Sidekick
Exposure: ISO 400, Aperture priority spot metered, 1/250th @ f/8
Raw on Mac, PSCS3, 70% of frame
Not baited, not set up, no cloning, no noise reduction

A common species here in winter and thus a common subject for me. The background is Desert Broom. As in almost all of my images the setting is just as important as the subject.

Beautiful- sweet pose, delightful perch and perfect BG. That bit of leaf over the rear end is a bit bothersome to me, but still a very fine image.

Excellent image, Richard. Really like the way you positioned the sparrow in the frame along with the diagonal perch. Perfect DOF and the background shows the sparrow off very well.

They may be a common bird but getting a good picture of one is another matter (at least for me). I like the composition and nice detail on the larger image, well done.

This one caught my eye in the thumbnail. The importance you give to the setting and background is clearly evident here as it compliments the sparrow very well and gives the photo an overall artistic effect. :toast:
