About 40 male and female Hooded Merganser at a local park. Most have been pretty skittish. This one swam past as I sat on the ground at the waters edge. Nikon D800, 500mm f4, ISO 800, f7.1, shutter 1/640, tripod. Thanks for looking. Appreciate your critique, Ray

I like the fluffed up head dress and interesting to see the same color scheme with the merganser and water . Good detail where it counts, way to go.

Ray, I like this. The "unified" color scheme and the reflections work for me. The water drops on the feathers add to the image. Nice swimming action. If it were mine, it might consider cloning out the darker shape (reflection?) coming into the picture at the URC. Very nice as is, though.

Whenever I see a female hooded merganser I always think of the movie "Bride of Frankenstein". I guess it's the "hair do". I also like the color pallette in this shot.

Hey Howard, its a great camera but takes some getting used to. It isn't as forgiving as the D300. I think the FPS is the only drawback, I'd be happy with 8!
