A Swami Sunset

During certain tides a beach nearby where I live has some great reef formations to shoot but i've never been really satisfied with the images from there. With this photo I was trying to create complimentary shapes with the incoming waves with the reefs. And last but not least used TK's Make it glow. The bright specs in the sand are from the sun hitting rocks, not sure that works at this size but as a large print i think it would work. Please view large and let me know what you think.

Beautiful Todd. It has wonderful clarity and color throughout. My only concern is the water seems a bit too bright in the LLC perhaps.

Todd,

What a gorgeous coastal sunset and seascape. That sky is fantastic and I like the clarity of the surf-n-sand too, wonderful, vibrant color.

I agree with you about the specs/little rocks in the sand. At this small version, I'm tempted to suggest cloning, but the larger view, and I agree, a larger print, they would show nothing other than fine detail.

Along with Bill's comment about the brighter surf, there is a slight disparity in brightness between the sky and the ocean/beach. You don't specify, but I'm guessing a 3-stop hard grad? If not, it has the look like a grad was used. Not a problem per se, just seems the sky is slightly darker than what one might expect given the brightness in the water - or vice versa. With that, the area of dark beach on the right could possibly be lightened a little to balance things out. Minor things and they certainly don't ruin the image for me. this is beautiful.

I also see a beautiful pano crop - they sky is just fabulous!

No, thank you Lon. When I look at an image too long I miss some basics with the thought of not working an image too much. Most of my images are minimally processed, I think that comes from film/chemical days. BTW, too bad not more people look over at man & nature.

A fine beach sunset composition ... you effectively and superbly achieved your goal. My only nitpick is that the horizon is ever so slightly not level.

Jim, I actually tilted it slightly right because with the horizon straight it seemed to be tilted left, kindof an optical illusion due to the sun(at least to my eye).

Lovely scene. The darks maybe feel a bit underexposed. That provides some rich color, but the rock feels like it needs a bit more detail.

Tony, I just came back to this image. I tried to give the rocks a little more detail, lighten them up a little but just didnt like any of my results.
