In this case it's not about how big and strong you are but it's about the rut. Out early this morning and it was a bit foggy and cool. This image was taken about an hour after sunrise. I was watching some other deer at the nature preserve when this doe appeared. Closely followed by this buck. We can see who is leading and who dutifully follows. Full frame image. I thought about cropping to take off from the right to decenter this. Then decided that the subject was the buck due to his size and the light on him. Secondarily is the doe. In that case I thought this was then a correct comp. Does this work? Comments and critiques welcomed and appreciated.

Peter, IMHO your composition works fine. But, if you could have moved so the protected tree in the BG was out of the photo it would be a big help. Good capture of the behavior. Thanks for sharing.

John,
Yeah those wire cages don't do much for the images. They're all over the place. Mostly oaks. If they didn't do that there would be no oak regeneration at all. Thanks for the suggestion, though. I'll try to keep it in mind in the future.

Peter, my eye immediately went to the buck, that is clearly the main focus point of this image due to the great spot lighting. Only when you mentioned you had intended tocrop a bit off the right I thought; yes, I probably would, but not much. I must agree that the wire cage is an eye sore... very unfortunate.

This is a fine story telling image with interesting lighting. I agree with Vincent about framing and the wire.
