North Shore Waves

This is a picture from early September I made on the north and west shore of Lake Superior. This was right near where the Gooseberry River flows in to the Lake in northern MN. It was made in the early morning not too long after sunrise. I was enjoying watching the waves as they crashed in against the rocks and listening to the sounds. It was pretty loud but very pleasant. Larger version for a better look.

That is one angry "sea", Nick. The texture in the trees and waves catch the eye nicely.

Nice drama. I like how the clouds kinda echo the energy of the wave. Very nicely done

Looks like pretty raw conditions with the wind. Loads of drama in this and the colors are quite nice as well. Beauty.

Loads of drama in the sky and water in this beauty, Nick. Your SS choice captured that crashing wave rather nicely. Excellent work!

Nick, your image is telling me a story about the rocks resisting the forces of the waves. I especially appreciate its almost pictorial quality. Your choice of shutter speed is spot on to me and lets me experience a kind of exciting rhythm in the motion of the waves.

Nick,

I thought the Big Sur Coast in CA was pretty rugged! This is quite the coast line and indeed a turbulent sea (ok, technically a lake.) The crashing wave adds nice action and drama and the sky gives us a clue as to the pending (or passing) storm that likely created the anger in the sea.

Great catch.

The sky adds a lot of drama along with the rough water and I really like the line of trees in the distance. Nicely done.

Nick, I like the drama in this image. The warm light on the rocks and trees makes them stand out from the dark clouds above. Fine image.

Nick: The subtle, yet dramatic color in this along with the wave really do tell the story well. This is so typical of Lake Superior and you've captured it perfectly.

A hard collection of element to pull together, Nick, but your handling pulls it off. The light feels very right, though I imagine it was harder than it looks.
