Buzzard's Roost

Fall Creek Falls State Park. Van Buren County, Tennessee. (The largest State Park in Tennessee).

I had just purchased a (new-to-me) used 300/4.5 lens for my Hasselblad, and took it out for a test drive. It was a rainy, overcast day, but the sun broke thru as I was eyeing this rock outcrop. I dialed in a quick -2 exposure in Aperture Priority, and fired away.

Beautifully composed image. Nice subtle light. Definitely needs to be seen large for the detail.

I really like the landscape out there. It reminds me of the amazon forest, seeing the thick blanket of rich green trees. I like this image a lot, and think the subject was well worth capturing. As said before, the large version is a must!

Large version is stunning. the soft, shadowed areas puts the attention right on your subject tree. Excellent composition

Very pleasing image, Michael. Perhaps a slight crop off the left to remove the partials.

Michael, This is really nice! I especially enjoyed looking at your larger version! Some wonderful light, colors and detail here. I like the deep rich greens and mix of rocks of the background in contrast with the sunlit leaves and rock in your foreground. Your comp also works well for me as is, and I see a small crop of the left side working too. Nice work Michael!

Michael, the lighting is perfect for isolating this cliff outcropping and the singular tree on it. Very nice indeed.

I second the crop from the left, and it would put the tree/rock less centered too. Very pleasing image.

Michael,

Since I'm not one for heights (one could say phobia,) this image gives me the willies. And what this means is that this image is causing an emotional response and that I think makes this quite successful. Personally, I wouldn't crop because that would kinda reduce that feeling of "over the edge" and dropping down in to the deep, so to speak. The only small nit/wish would be to deal with the tree top at the bottom of the frame. I dunno, maybe it helps to separate the cliff from the bg, but I can't decide if that bothers me or not. In the end though, both the edge the cliff and trees right to the edge AND from the camera's point of view, I'm still feeling uneasy and I want to take a few steps back!
